Headings: The Map of Your Content

Think of headings ($H1$ through $H6$) as the Table of Contents for a screen reader user.

  • Logic over Aesthetics: Never pick a heading level based on how big the font looks. Pick it based on the document hierarchy.
  • The Golden Rule: You should only have one $H1$ per page. It’s the title of your “book.”
  • Don’t Skip Levels: Jumping from an $H2$ to an $H4$ is like skipping chapters in a novel; it disorients users navigating by landmarks.
